Gregory's been having the time of his life the last two weeks. His school has what's called "Winterim." Every January for 2 1/2 weeks they go in depth into some subject. Some of the Winterim subjects to choose from for this year included: Improvisation/Writing, Anatomy, Film, Law and Order, Astronomy, Aviation, to name a few. Gregory selected "Interactive Media" - in which, according to the teacher's words, "[We] will investigate video games...this Winterim. This course, above all, is designed to challenge the way that you conceive and perceive video games. We'll have a lot of fun, a lot of discussion, and (the best part of video games), a lot of hands-on participation." Can you belive it? They've been playing video games! His homework has included 1 1/2 hour minimum a day playing an RPG game (nothing over T rating, thank heaven.) He is supposed to FINISH the one he's doing at home. Lucky guy! But seriously, they have to take notes as they go and keep a journal of it all, and in class they study gaming's influence on society, and have in class essays, and a final paper worth 30% of their grade. He's loving it, and even keeping up so far on the written work. We told him we expect him to get an A in this class! The teacher is a Socratic Seminar teacher, so he's bringing lots of philosophy and history into the class discussions. Cool, huh.

Oh my goodness, I could not tell Eldon about this or he would be packing his bags and asking you to adopt him. How cool!
I love hands-on learning! Way to go!
Fabulous!
Maybe, he'll get sick of it by the end? (nah!)
