Charity for Valentines' Day

Samuel was in charge of the FHE lesson last night, and he did a repeat of a very successful one he worked up a couple of months ago.  He calls it "Teaching with the Stars," (inspired by "Dancing with the Stars," ha ha.) Basically he gives all family members 5 minutes to prepare a 2-3 minute lesson on the topic of the evening, then each person has 2-3 minutes to present to everyone else the lesson they prepared.  Last time Samuel even prepared "paddles" for the "judges" (parents), but we opted out on that this time, since the "judges" gave all 5's last time! It has been very inspiring, and very creative. (Last time Gregory even quickly made up a PowerPoint presentation, believe it or not!) Last night, the subject was "charity," in honor of Valentines' Day. Samuel had decided on that more than a week ago when he realized he would have the lesson that day.

I love the idea Jason and I came up with, and thought I'd share it here. We wrote down several examples of words you find on Valentines' conversation hearts, and came up with gospel related messages we could get out of them. Here's what we came up with.

Hug me = Comforting, peaceful
Kiss me = Healing hurts (like a "boo boo" or "owie")
Be Mine = Follow the Savior
I Love You = Charity, the pure love of Christ
Puppy Love = Boy likes girl, girl likes boy (ok, not so gospel oriented...)
You're Sweet = Good influence on my Spirit
Too Hot = Really nice
Forever = Families can be together forever/sealing power for Eternity

Can you sense the nine year old influence? It was cute. We also didn't have any of the candies to look at to remember what they were - they were already all gone! With more prep time we could have probably made it better, but it was fun. "Sweet" huh?

Thanks, Samuel!
